  1. Macheist 4 is in progress, which means you get to play fun free games and win free software! The free games are very well done (imho) and are available from http://macheist.com/missions for both OS X 10.7+ and iOS.

  2. Rogue Amoeba, makers of fine audio software including Audio Hijack Pro and Fission, are having a tenth anniversary sale. Through the end of September, you can get $10 off any of their products (new purchases, not upgrades) if you purchase through their web site. Macheist is doing a new promotion in the form of an iOS app called "The Heist".

It costs 99 cents but is worth it for the puzzles it includes, which are of four familiar types. Once you've solved enough puzzle levels, you get a prize: an activation code for the Steam game called Eets, which is normally worth $10.

I was expecting to unlock another iOS app, not a Mac/PC game, but hey, I'll take it.

Have fun!

MacHeist nanoBundle 2 is up and running starting tonight and for the next week. As usual, more apps are unlocked as more bundles are sold. Also, they have several charity partners from which to choose to receive 25% of the $19.95 purchase price.

MacHeist is underway!

There's now a "nanoBundle" available for free download: 6 apps for the price of none. The website has a cool little video demonstration of the apps, but the apps are: ShoveBox, WriteRoom, Twitterific, TinyGrab, Hordes of Orcs, and Mariner Write.

Yay, free stuff :) And a couple of things there that might be useful for you Nano-ers.

It looks like Macheist is gearing up for its next big promotion. For the next 36 hours or so, if you go to macheist.com and enter the coordinates (151.7,174.4) you'll see a countdown clock to "impact" and receive a free license for the Daisy Disk utility (worth $20).

Major thanks to the person who pointed out bestmacsoftware.org, which I hadn't seen before. That and the Apple Downloads site are the best places to start, since they feature the good stuff.

MacUpdate & VersionTracker focus on listing every application under the sun regardless of quality, so they're more useful as search engines.

I also included MacHeist just for reference, although it's not active right now.
