Major thanks to the person who pointed out bestmacsoftware.org, which I hadn't seen before. That and the Apple Downloads site are the best places to start, since they feature the good stuff.

MacUpdate & VersionTracker focus on listing every application under the sun regardless of quality, so they're more useful as search engines.

I also included MacHeist just for reference, although it's not active right now.

MacHeist is total hearts. I've gotten so much good stuff from it.

I bought the MacHeist 3 bundle and there was so much stuff, I haven't even found time to try it all.
